Indonesian are proud of their national motto, Bhineka Tunggal Ika, yet discrimination is all-over in Indonesia. Discrimination is an unfair or unjust treatment of people and groups based on stereotypes of their race, gender, or sexual orientation. There are many forms of discrimination, however in Indonesia today, people mainly suffer from racial and religious discrimination. Discrimination based on race and religion is nothing new in Indonesia and still exists nowadays. recorded 101 complaints about alleged racial and ethnic violations. It’s a pity that discrimination in Indonesia is a big and happening issue but it’s rarely discussed, whereas discussion about discrimination is important because a lot of individuals are either involved in or face discrimination.

Discrimination on the basis of race is nothing new in Indonesia. Discrimination in Indonesia is now a scourge that can break the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Many things or words indirectly support the action of this discrimination. Although there is a law that mediates this problem, this disease is still difficult to avoid, because there are still many Indonesian people who view differences as taboo, for example, “bule” or foreigners who come to Indonesia are always the center of attention. This small habit can foster an attitude to deify foreigners rather than respecting the natives of this country. This habit can be the seed of discrimination. So the last thing we can do is learn about the history and the issues facing them today so we can avoid actions or expressions that might be hurtful to others.

Discrimination is one of the problems that still exist in society, especially race discrimination. The school environment is one of the places that discrimination happened. So as a grown-up, we must educate our brothers, sister, or children about respect for each other and tell them that there are many races in this world.

Tolerance in Religion

Religious discrimination was most likely to occur to people who believes in “minority” religion. In order to fight discrimination on the basis of religion, we should try to respect each other and set a good example to everyone in our community, be aware of the possible misunderstandings that can occur in conversation between people of different religious backgrounds, and Respect diversity by providing person-centered care.

Discrimination is wrong because it is selfish. Discrimination throughout the world today occurs to many extremes. From one extreme to another, it is in any way wrong. Discrimination is happening all over the world, today for many reasons. One being because parents have taught their children to believe and think the way they do. The only thing we can do about it is to raise our children to not discriminate against others.
